Customer Update September 11, 2006

New shortcode - no credits required

A new shortcode is now available to Bango content providers. Designed exclusively for U-rated content, the shortcode 62866 can be used for UK-based mobile promotions.

Best of all, the shortcode doesn’t cost you, the content provider, a penny. Unlike a conventional free text trigger, where you pay text credits for each trigger activated - your customers cover the cost of the text message trigger. It costs just 25p. They then receive an SMS and WAP push message with links to your site where they can browse and buy your content.

For example, the shortcode could be used in a text trigger campaign, where a mobile user sees the magazine ad:

Text GO MYWAPSITE to 62866. Message costs 25p. Then browse
and buy MYWAPSITE ringtones
and wallpapers.

The customer then sends a text message as instructed, is charged 25p, then follows the link to your site from the WAP message they receive back from Bango.

And here's the clever bit - because they don't have a regular Bango balance - they can pay for each individual piece of content as they go, which gives better visibility of actual costs. This type of promotion has proved popular with mobile users and can reduce your overheads on a major campaign, so everyone benefits!

Be sure to include the price of the text in your ad. For more information about shortcodes and text triggers see the Knowledgebase or Bango.com (login required).

Security reminder

A gentle reminder that Bango Customer Services will only discuss package details with a named contact - the administrator or techie listed in your package permissions.

It's also worth remembering that when a named contact leaves your organisation, you must delete them from your package permissions - just to be sure you are not open to any kind of fraud.

Explanation of Sales figures

If you have permission to see the sales figures for your packages, these are shown above. Please note that these figures are total sales for your content. If you don't have any sales figures in the email, then the person who set up the Bango package has not given you permission to see this data.
