SWOT-Up for Payforit version 2.0 - coming soon
We alerted you to updates to the UK cross-network WAP billing scheme, Payforit , on July 7th.
Version 2.0 offers significant new functionality that will benefit your paid-for content services. You can expect increasing conversion rates and an improved approach to marketing opt-ins.
Subject to final operator decisions, the new functionality will be activated in the next few weeks.
A powerful new feature is 'Payforit Single Click'. This is aimed at consumers who are comfortable with making payments on their phone. They can opt to turn-on Single Click for selected content services and then link directly from the promoting page to the content - without intermediary pages. This reduced clicks experience is already popular on many retail PC websites such as Amazon who enjoy frequently returning users and will make its debut in mobile payments using the Payforit scheme.
To improve opt-in rates, the "check box" through which your customers agree to receive marketing from you will now be pre-ticked across all five UK networks. This means that customers need to do nothing to opt-in to receive marketing from you. Based on Bango's analysis, this will boost your audience on networks that previously did not allow pre-checking of this box, where opt-in rates languished at around 9% of purchasers.
The latest version provides a model to support a shopping basket feature, so that multiple items can be purchased with one "checkout" transaction. Common again on PC web sites, this new feature will be particularly relevant for off-handset purchases, such as tickets and physical goods.
"Payforit is advancing to marry the opportunity presented by growing numbers of users accessing the mobile internet with the rich seam of mobile and internet services currently available" commented Rory Maguire, Head of Third Party Services for 3 in the UK and Ireland. "With version 2 we are offering the kind of functionality that underpins great usability in on-line shopping using PCs and migrating this to the mobile purchasing experience".
To take full advantage of Payforit 2.0 you will need to make some small changes to the "payment routing links" in your mobile web pages. Instructions for how to modify your code will be provided in the: Bango Knowledgebase so we recommend you register your interest now so that you will get an email as soon as the code is published.
We are planning a webinar on Payforit 2.0 shortly.
