Customer Update June 25, 2007 |
|
Marketing Opt-In RulesMarketing to users through the mobile phone is becoming an increasingly regulated aspect of the business. It is important that you are aware of the issues, because non-compliance can in extreme cases lead to service denial. Many of your customers will be interested in offers and updates, so Bango provides a standardized opt-in user flow and an API that allows you to determine the opt-in status of your customers. The Bango payment flow allows for an additional post-payment page to be displayed to the user; just before sending them to the content that they've paid for. This page invites them to opt into marketing messages for your service. The page represents two checkboxes - one to opt into marketing messages for your service and another to opt in to marketing messages from your partners. This is an opt-IN page. It can only be used to check a box, opting the user into the marketing list for your service. If the user doesn't check a box, their opt-in status for your service is unchanged. It's not possible to opt out of a marketing list using this page. The user can manage their opt ins using the Marketing Prefs area in My Options at http://bango.net. The marketing opt-in page will be displayed, possibly checked by default, depending upon the operator rules and if they send the MSISDN to Bango. An output parameter "optedin" is passed to the content provider with the opt-in status for the user; this is passed on every post payment transaction. This parameter will be set with one of the following values:
For security the MSISDN is not passed in the response. It is available to you on-demand via a secure web service. Check your service options whether this functionality is available to you. Kind regards Bango customer services | |
